They say practice makes perfect — and our youth teams are putting that to the test every weekend!

From Minis through to the Colts, there’s progress everywhere you look, with players improving, learning, and still finding time for plenty of fun along the way. Here are the highlights:

Under 7s | Jack

With no visiting team this week, our U7s used the session to reinforce the basics and practice their matchplay. The group worked hard on spacing, passing, and staying switched on, and it showed once we moved into the game.

Jack was our Player of the Week, listening brilliantly throughout and applying every coaching point. His effort and decision‑making in the match were outstanding.

Under 10s | Harry

It was an outstanding all-round team performance, with every player rising to the challenge and putting their bodies on the line. Battered and bruised, but never beaten, it made choosing a standout player incredibly difficult.

Harry delivered his best performance of the season. In attack, he was relentless, smashing through tackles and carrying with real power and determination. In defence, he was formidable, putting in big hits and covering the pitch with tireless energy. He seemed to be everywhere when it mattered most. Harry clearly relished the challenge, stepping up with confidence and intensity, and showing exactly what he’s capable of when pushed.

A brilliant, all-action performance, and a very well-deserved Player of the Week.

Under 8s | Joseph & Marcus

On a glorious morning at Ballards Ash there was some sumptuous rugby on display. We worked on coordinating as a team, short passes to a team-mate on the run and staying connected as a defensive line. These paid off when it came to the matches as the rugby was so good it drew rounds of applauds from the watching parents at times.
The players of the week were Joseph and Marcus. Joseph’s passing was excellent and he scored brilliant tries. Marcus’s effort was immense and he got loads of tags while defending.

Under 11s | Dylan & Max

Dylan was the Rucker of the week showing great commitment in contact situations and in defence with try saving tackles.

Max was the player of the week displaying some great footwork and dynamic running in the training matches. Well done lads!

Under 12s | Jack

Player of the week was Jack, who started the game with a huge amount of energy and was awarded with a quick try. He continued that energy throughout the whole match with some great decision making and strong tackles. He also showed a really positive attitude and called G ‘sir’ - a little respect goes a long way on the rugby pitch!

Under 13s | Micah

Under 13’s Player of the Game went to Micah. He showed outstanding determination in a very physical and competitive match. Micah covered a huge amount of ground, carried the ball with real strength, and broke through the defence multiple times to score.

What stood out most, though, was his work at the breakdown—securing possession brilliantly and giving his scrum-half the time needed to make the right decisions. Well done, Micah!

Ravens Under 14s | Annalise

This weeks U14 Raven of the week is Annalise, it was really heart-warming to see Annalise really flourish in this game, showing great resilience and determination to keep going and work hard throughout the whole match, with some great tackles and ball carrying. It was wonderful to see her rewarded with a solo try in the final quarter as a reward for supporting the team from start to finish.

Under 14s | Oliver

Player of the week for the U14 boys was Oliver L. It was a brilliant game of rugby at Cheltenham Tigers. Closely fought with Bassett scoring with the last play of the game.

Oliver was awarded player of the match for scoring the winning try, another try during the game and great play around the park.

Under 15s | Felix

Player of the Week went to Felix. Great running lines and decision making in attack along with dogged defensive work.

Shoutout to Tom as well who was giving player of the match by Ciren.

Under 16s | Ben

U16's Boys Hosted Stow-on-the-Wold this Sunday. A game played in warm weather and a great competitive spirit which everyone enjoyed. Player of the week was Ben for his long distance try. Legend has it, that is now at 600 yards out.

Colts | Ben & Max

Bassett Colts produced a strong performance to secure a 21–5 victory over a well-organised Thornbury side, a significant turnaround from earlier in the season when Thornbury put 35 points on us.

The difference this time came through work rate, physicality, and defensive intent. Joint Men of the Match, Ben and Max, led the charge. Both were outstanding in defence, working tirelessly throughout and consistently disrupting Thornbury’s attack. Their ability to win turnovers at key moments shifted momentum back in Bassett’s favour and gave the team a platform to play from.

Not only were they relentless at the breakdown, but they also proved difficult for Thornbury to handle defensively, carrying hard and keeping the opposition under pressure.

A real statement performance from the group, showing how far this team has come.
