This weekend our Ravens brought plenty of style as well as rugby skills — lining up in their Red Roses glasses to cheer on England in the World Cup.

Who says supporting your team can’t also be a fashion statement?

They weren’t the only ones making an impression though — from Minis to Colts, there were plenty of great moments to celebrate.

Under 6s | William & Ada

Another great session this week. The player of the week for our 4-year-olds was William. He showed great teamwork and scored some excellent tries. His ball handling is also amazing.

For our 5-year-olds, this weeks player was Ada. She was excellent whilst playing, always looking for the space and seeing where she can run. Her enthusiasm towards the game is amazing.

Under 7s | Spencer

Excellent session today in the sunshine. We had a stand-in coach today, Coach Malcolm so thank you to him. The kids have improved in their listening skills, although they got slightly distracted at times watching the match on the next pitch, but it was good to see them interested in the game. The standout player of the week was Spencer, with excellent passing skills and try scoring. Well done everyone.

Under 8s | Otto

Otto was player of the week for his level of focus, listening and play in game.

Under 9s | Isaac & Jake

U9 tackler of the week was Isaac. He has a great tackling technique and extremely good ball-handling skills. He is courageous and got stuck in very quickly since joining the club!

The U9 player of the week is Jake!  He has great communication skills and shares his knowledge with the other players.  He’s a great team player and a real role model to others! We are very impressed with you Jake!

Under 10s | Harry

Harry was awarded player of the week this week after putting into practice the lessons learnt from our rucking drills. He made the correct decisions and helped his team work up the pitch to score several tries. Well done Harry!

Ravens Under 12s | AB

Our U12 Raven of the Week was, as always, tough to pick with so many standout performances. This week it went to AB, whose charging runs and try-scoring power — including dragging the opposition over the line — set the tone for the team.

Under 11s | Alex & Dylan

Alex was the player of the week showing his trademark silky running skills, weaving through defenders. He also led the line-up in defence putting in some strong tackles.
Dylan was our Rucker of the week, jackalling really well and demonstrating great technique in the breakdown. Good work lads.

Under 12s | Sam

Player of the week goes to Sam this week, who showed real focus and determination in learning the role of full back, as well as helping out the coaches with teaching the new players basic skills - well done Sam, great teamwork and effort, keep it up!

Under 13s | Rupert

Player of the Match went to Rupert. Who put in an outstanding performance at scrum-half in his first game of the season. He didn’t stop running all morning, showing great energy and determination throughout. Making several crucial tackles, and he capped it all off with 2 well-earned tries. Well done, Rupert!

Under 14s | Zach

Zach was player of the match for U14 as voted for by the Marlborough players themselves. Zach scored 4 tries in a strong team performance.

Ravens Under 14s | Darcey

The U14s travelled down the M5 to take on the North Somerset barbarians at Nailsea and Backwell RFC. With the Ravens able to field 12 players, we aimed to build on last week's performance and put our training into practice.

We started well, with some strong carries and vastly improved ruck speed, but the babaas broke the deadlock with their strong back line. The Ravens didn't give in, and scored a try of their own shortly afterwards, again utilising quick ruckspeed, and exploiting the blind side space. The teams then traded tries as they both tried to find an edge.

Annalise added some confident carries, and new Raven Rosie did well in her first game, competing well in the scrum. As the game wore on, the Ravens began losing players to injury, with Annalise going off with a head knock, Lexi with a bang to the face, and MJ getting a scrape to her eye. The Babaas capitalised and began running in tries as the Ravens tired, but our players never gave up. We eventually lost the match, but achieved our goal with a massive step up in performance. Lydia was immense on the wing going forward well, and some great tackles in defence but our player of the day was Darcey, who found her leadership voice, sniped well from the rucks, and distributed the ball effectively to unleash our backs.

Under 15s | Charlie

Thanks to all those that came today, was a very productive morning with some great rugby played from both teams.

Man of the match this week went to Charlie. Defensively solid making tackle after tackle and also led from the front in his carries with great leadership on the pitch

Under 16s | Ollie

Bassett Under-16s hosted a strong Keynsham side this weekend. A close hard hard-fought battle was played out in a great rugby spirit. Player of the week was Ollie. He has returned from a broken leg without skipping a beat.

Colts | Max

The MotM vs Keynsham was Under 16 player Max.

Colts | Charlie

A good test for Bassett Colts against a determined Devizes team. Bassett showed good resilience and took the game to Devizes, in doing so they dominated the set piece and for the most part kept the shape they’ve been working on. Sunday’s MoM was awarded to Charlie for a faultless performance at FB where his searing pace kept the opposition on the back foot throughout the match.
