On Friday we held our annual Volunteer’s Evening as a token of appreciation for the time and effort invested in the club by our many volunteers and members.

The evening also gave us an opportunity to present the 2017 Club Person of the Year awards. These awards are presented to the persons considered by the committee to have made an exceptional contribution to Royal Wootton Bassett RFC. The awards were presented by Club Chairman Chris Elias.

Jim and Laura Brierley

This year, the Senior Club Person award went not to one person, but to a couple. Jim and Laura Brierley are stalwarts of the club. Not only does Jim run the sidelines each and every home match, but he also organises our fixtures with his joint roles as Fixtures Secretary and Referee Co-ordinator, while for years, Laura has helped ensure our players are well-fed post matches.

However, Jim and Laura went far and beyond what was called for by hosting a visiting player from New Zealand throughout the whole of the last season. While Mahue Dewes experienced the best of English Rugby by playing for our 1st XV, Jim and Laura welcomed him into their home as a member of their own family. Jim and Laura - sincerest congratulations on being awarded the Club Persons of the Year. Your selfless and continued contributions to the Club do us proud.

Evan Vaughan-Lewis

This year the Junior Club Person of the Year shield was awarded to Evan Vaughan-Lewis. Evan has supported the club since he was little, helping our 3rd XV make sure they were fit and ready to play while his dad was captain of the team - a feat in itself.  Evan has also done lots of work with Wooden Spoon and refereeing to help encourage the growth of rugby and has been a great ambassador for our club in doing so. He is a very worth winner of this award.

We at RWBRFC are very proud of the work our volunteers do and it is one of the reasons that make our club such a successful family-orientated club. Thank you to everyone who gives up their time on a continued basis to make our club such a success.
