Our annual Volunteers Evening was held on Friday 26th September, to coincide with the 2025 McCue Cup match between a RWBRFC President’s XV and 8 Training Battalion REME.

The evening gave us the chance to celebrate the many volunteers whose time and commitment are vital to the running of our club, while also enjoying one of the highlights of the season — the McCue Cup fixture. The match itself ended in a convincing win for the home side, with RWBRFC running out 52–12 winners in front of a lively Ballards Ash crowd.

Clubperson Awards

Halftime provided the perfect moment to announce this year’s winners of the Clubperson of the Year awards, presented in recognition of those who have made an exceptional contribution to the club.

Senior Clubperson award

The Senior Clubperson of the Year award was presented to Kevin Kessell.

Kevin, who has been Senior Coach for our 4th XV for several years, has played an instrumental role in guiding the team — both from the sidelines and, on occasion, on the pitch himself. The award was presented at halftime, where Kev was running the lines during the McCue Cup match. His dedication to the senior team and to the wider club made him a very deserving recipient.

We caught up with Kev to take his photograph early on Sunday morning while he was volunteering (again!), for Week One of our Minis Festival.

Junior Clubperson award

The Junior Clubperson of the Year award went to Finley Low.

Despite being just 13 years old, Fin has long been a familiar face around the club. From working as one of the team of ball boys at 1st XV matches, to setting up equipment before senior training and games, and helping behind the scenes at club events, his contribution has been impressive. Fin, who plays scrum-half for our Under 14s, is a shining example of the next generation of volunteers at RWBRFC.

We are proud of all our volunteers and the enormous amount they do to make Royal Wootton Bassett RFC the family-orientated club it is.
