This Friday evening, during the club's annual Volunteer's Wine & Cheese Evening, Chairman Chris Elias took the opportunity to present the 2018 Club Person of the Year awards.

These awards are presented to the people considered by the committee to have made an exceptional contribution to Royal Wootton Bassett RFC.

Club Person of the Year

This year the Club Person of the Year award was presented to Bassett's Minis & Juniors Secretary, Karen Wilkinson.

Chris commented that "Karen is an outstanding member of the Minis & Juniors Management Team who has been fundamental in guiding previous M&J's Chairmen - who all needed a bit of guidance over the years - and she is a fantastic ambassador for this club and a very worthy winner of this prestigious award."

Junior Club Persons of the Year

Each year the club also presents a Junior Club Person Award to recognise the young people at our club who go over and above playing rugby for RWBRFC. This year the Junior Club Person of the Year Shield was awarded not one person, but to two - Jackson Allen and Jamie Wilkinson.

"These two young men are a partnership, who give up their weekends to work as our first-team ball-boys", Chris explained. "Not only do they feed the balls back onto the pitch during the game, but carry out the important work setting up the pitches before each match and clearing away equipment and changing rooms post-match. They play a vital role at the club and should be an inspiration for more young volunteers coming up through the club."

The Volunteer's Evening was held as a token of appreciation for the time and effort invested in the club by our members.

As Chris said on the night, "It's not a coincidence when visitors to the club look at our pitches and say they are 'the best pitches they've ever seen'. Or look at our club website and say 'it's the best club website they've ever seen'. The way our Minis & Juniors travel away and we get compliments all across the board. This is all because of the hard work put in by everyone in this room throughout the whole season. So this is just a little way for the club to say thank you for everything our volunteers do."

We at Royal Wootton Bassett RFC are very proud of the work our volunteers do and it is one of the reasons that make our club such a wonderful family-orientated club. Thank you to everyone who gives up their time on a continued basis to make our club such a success.
